Howdy!
I’m Matt Keyser, a narrative nonfiction writer with a passion for uncovering the extraordinary within the everyday. I believe the most powerful stories aren’t just found in headline moments—they live in the struggles, turning points, and quiet decisions that shape who we become. My work is build around bringing those moments to life on the page.
Over the past two decades, my writing has appeared in The Washington Post, The Dallas Morning News, CNN, The FIFTY Most Interesting Athletes, and in newspapers and TV stations across the country. (Ask me about the time I bobbed my head like a chicken on live TV.)
During my 20-year journalism career, I focused on deep, human-centered storytelling that resonated with readers. One editor described my reporting as “searching wide for all groups affected by the issues at the heart of any news story he pursues, and obtaining illuminating comments of those people, who act as magnets for readership and viewership. He is truly a remarkable reporter.”
Then, in 2025, everything changed. I was laid off and left asking myself, “What the hell am I going to do now?”
After a lot of reflection, I found my answer: use my experience, curiosity, and love for storytelling to help athletes share the definitive stories of their lives and careers. That’s when Athlete Memoirs was born.
My approach is simple: ask thoughtful—sometimes challenging—questions that help you dig deep into the moments that shaped you: your triumphs, struggles, lessons, and defining experiences. From there, I craft an honest, immersive narrative that reflects who you are and captures the essence of your journey.
I look forward to working with you and helping you tell your story in a bold, authentic way that will captivate your readers.
